It’s Mother’s Day – so my mind is on my mom, Mary Batties. I miss that woman greatly!

She told me often that I needed to be aware of what people hear and see when I’m around. She warned me that there would almost always be a person that copied me when I wasn’t even looking!

These words stuck with me and I’ve tried to let The Word act as a spiritual mirror and a refining fire, stripping away the old self. Stripping away anything that didn’t reflect my faith in Jesus and my desire to give honor to God. I heard my mom, and I hear the Holy Spirit.

The influences of the world today appear to be creating a stronghold over many. Rather than being a force for change and a reflection of Christ; many seem to be embracing all that they see and hear. Believers in Jesus and people of God are spewing hate, seeking glory for themselves, provoking one another into battle, and displaying jealousy over what another person has been blessed with. And, because many of the people doing this are in leadership, they are leading others to do the same!!! I truly praise God for our amazing gift – the Holy Spirit – that can ensure we have the wisdom and strength against falling for any guidance that is not of Him. His truth and His word protect His children!

People watch you. The world watches you. Your words and actions influence many.

What is pushing you into conforming to the things of the world? How does God’s Word provide you a different path?

When we begin to believe and speak the word it begins to transform us. The Word has given us the gift of salvation and eternal life through Jesus. The Word is able to transform us into new people. The Word gives us the strength and courage to challenge the norms in our culture. The Word gives us the passion necessary to claim our culture for Christ!

I heard you Mary!!!

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Romans 12:2)

Father, please let Your Word be like a fire in our bones today. Give us the passion to represent You well in every conversation and in every action. Pour your Holy Spirit into us to help us not be drawn to the superficial values of the world! Transform us truly – helping us to focus our minds on godly values and truly ethical attitudes. Help us to be all that you desire us to be! Protect us from the snares and traps of the enemy. Keep our minds stayed on You! Amen
