People of Islam celebrate Ramadan to remember the month when Gabriel revealed the Quran to Muhammad. It is the most important month in the Muslim calendar. We are committed to praying for them each year during this time. We ask Him to show them His truth. Their hearts and minds can be free and abundantly blessed.
People of Islam fast during the day and shun immorality. As one of Islam’s five pillars, all healthy adults must follow this.
Ramadan is divided into three distinct 10-day phases:
- The first ten days of Ramadan are Days of Mercy and Heavenly Rewards. (February 18–27) Islam encourages Muslims to repent and seek Allah’s forgiveness during this time.
- The Days of Forgiveness are the next 10 days of Ramadan. (February 27–March 😎. Allah’s forgiveness is reported to peak this season. They must beseech Allah for forgiveness and strength to avoid sin. Also common is the request for forgiveness and reconciliation.
- The last ten days of Ramadan are called the Days of Salvation. (March 9-18) Laylat-al-Qadr, the Night of Power, makes these the most important ten days. Muslims pray to avoid eternal damnation during this time.
Ramadan ends with Eid al-Fitr, the Fast-breaking festival. Muslims praise Allah for giving them strength during the fast. Gifts, new clothes, and henna are given to girls.
