51 ….

I’ll start this off my saying to my great-niece, Brittny … “Tag, I’m it!” LOL! She knows what I mean! Love you, BK!

51 years since the day that I was born. I must testify that it has been an amazing and wonderful thing to walk with Him; to talk with Him; to tell Him that I am His own! The joy we share as we tarry there (in His presence) non other has ever known! (Do any of you know this hymn? )

I woke up knowing what God is expecting from me and knowing that He will strengthen me and guide me to get it done because it is for the sake of His glory! Knowing that my life has Kingdom purpose just blows my mind!

Many times any of us can feel that we are not worthy to do what God wants done. But He doesn’t call us to do anything because we are worthy, but because it is His plan! The deal is that Our Father has created each one of us anew as the Holy Spirit within us moved us to believe in Christ! Amazing! Our Salvation then moves our hearts to want to serve Him with every gift and talent that Our Creator has given us! Amazing! Our lives are a free gift from the Most High God. Our lives are moved by His power. Our life purpose; our calling; our passion …. all of these things are for the sake of His Kingdom .. not for the sake of our own glory.

My brother-in-law, Dr. Reginald W. DeVaughn Sr., preached an amazing message on New Years Eve. He made it very clear that when we say that we want to be successful we cannot be misled to believe that that means we’ve made lots of money, received lots of praise from some man, or even that we live or drive something better than others. We must understand that being successful means that we have given the lives that He has given us Back To Him!

Each year is a huge blessing to me! I get so excited just to think about the fact the The Lord, Himself, created me. I wake up on my birthday and am overjoyed that The Creator of the Universe, formed me specially! (2 Corinthians 5: 17) I get excited further when I reflect on the fact that the reason I am in Christ Jesus, is not because of my ability to believe … but because of God’s power and His plan to redeem me.

Thank You, God, for allowing me to survive another year and to dwell on this earth for 51 years! Thank you for making me sure that I was to live a life of full time ministry, even when I had other plans! Thank you for my husband who has been with me for more than 1/2 of my life! Thank you for blessing me with a ministry partner, Lloyd Chinn, who is also my Christian life partner. Thank You for creating me as a woman. Thank You for allowing your Holy Spirit to move in my heart and lead me to Jesus Christ. Thank You for moving my heart to submit and to serve you for the rest of my life! Lord, I’m having a Happy Birthday … because You love me; You walk with me; You talk with me; You tell me that I am Your own!

God has made us what we are. In Christ Jesus, God made us new people so that we would spend our lives doing the good things he had already planned for us to do.

Ephesians 2: 10

Resolutions for 2019 based in Memories from 2018

These lessons from 2018 are some that I learned; was reminded of; consulted others to do; or, keep on my living list. I pray that the list is a blessing to you!

  1. Read the entire Bible through the year. There are many plans to guide you, but just walk through the Word so that you can know Our God deeply. (2 Tim. 3:16-17; … and so many more!**A great reading plan  is https://my.bible.com/reading-plans/2053-as-it-happened
  2. Know God deeply so that you can share who He is with everybody! (1 Peter 3:15 … and so many more!)
  3. Trust His Faithfulness. This is the only way to testify about it! (Proverbs 3: 5-6 … and so many more!)
  4. Live in Joy! Happiness is based upon an event; chemicals; muscles; nerves in our lives … but not joy! Joy has nothing to do with happiness, joy is a feeling produced by the Holy Spirit! In other words joy is from seeing the beauty of our Savior, Jesus Christ as we pay attention to His Word and His Work. (James 1:2 … and so many more!)
  5. Family: Appreciate and Love them. Yes, I know that you can get disappointed but always know that you cannot have positive effect on people you separate from or hate. (Proverbs 22:6; Genesis 2:24; Psalm 128: 3; Joshua 24: 15; 1 Timothy 3: 14; Ephesians 3: 14-15; … and so many more!)
  6. Do What He’s Called You To Do! It’ll be greatly above your personal skills and knowledge, but He will use you to do it if you submit to His power. (Colossians 4:17 … and so many more!)
  7. Enjoy your opportunities. Sometimes weird events or unknown folk will make you want to run! Don’t run! Step in and be amazed by what God will do in and for you! (Romans 8: 28 … and so many more!)
  8. Be healed. Healing from illness and also healing from being hurt. Hurt happens – don’t wallow in it. Give the hurts to God and allow Him to work in you. A healed you will bless others – a hurting you will hurt others. (Psalm 147: 3; Psalm 6: 2; 1 Peter 2: 24; Isaiah 53: 5; … and so many more! … study the Word of God, you’ll be encouraged!)
  9. Be life. Speak in a way that a gives life to people. Act in ways that bring life to people’s situations. (John 15: 12, 13; Matthew 5: 16; Romans 12: 13; … and so many more!
  10. Be love. In situations where you might be tempted to lash out; to get vengeance; etc – choose to be love. Care – really care – for other people. (1 John 4: 7-8 … and so many more!)
  11. Feed your soul. Study the Word of God, talk to the Lord, Listen to the Lord, Fellowship with other believers. (1 Peter 2: 1, 2… and so many more!)
  12. Don’t think more of yourself than you ought. At the end of the day it is His mercy; His grace; and His gifting – humility is necessary and healthy. (Philippians 2: 3-4; 1 Peter 5: 5-6; Micah 6: 8 … and so many more!)
  13. Discover why God created you and walk in it. No other human can do what God has created you to do – so do it! (Psalm 8: 4-6; Ephesians 1: 11-12; 1 Peter 2: 9 … and so many more!
  14. Celebrate other people’s Christ lives. When the faith of your friends increase; when a person accepts Christ as Savior; when a person experiences God’s faithfulness in difficulty; and many more examples! (Colossians 3: 12-14; John 15: 12-15; … and so many more!)
  15. Understand what a big payoff is. A few examples: His favor; His grace; His mercy; etc. Money and promotion are good … buy they don’t even lightly compare to His hand on your life! (Joshua 1: 9; Lamentations 3: 22 – 23; Matthew 11: 28; … and so many more!)
  16. Ask for more grace. Extend more grace. Grow in His grace. (2 Corinthians 12:8-9; Ephesians 6:7; Ephesians 2:8-9; 1 Peter 4:10; … and so many more!)
  17. Live in His image. When others see you, they should know you live for Him. (Genesis 1: 26-27; 1 Corinthians 11:7; … and so many more!)
  18. Speak in His image. Speak truth. When others hear you speak, they should know you live for Him. Be honest. Speak the Truth – the Word of God.  (1 John 3:18, 4:6; John 4:24; … and so many more!)
  19. Study The Word Of God. Spend Time With The Almighty God. Live A Life That Brings Worship To Our Savior, Jesus Christ. Rely Upon The Strength And Power Of The Holy Spirit.

**The Scriptures listed above are quite minimal … but a good start for you!

Happy New Year!!!!

Victory in My Father, My Lord, My King

One more week since the last update and I’ll say again that I Did Not Have One Seizure!

We left Strasbourg and proceeded to Albertville via automobile to visit two more families. A favorite experience was with one of our MKs (missionary kids) who approached me and asked “OK, Aunt Jan … what is my name?” She was honored and happy when I answered Isabella. She had no complaint when I couldn’t remember her siblings name without a little help. LOL! Something to shout about!!

We were with a total of 4 couples (some with children) to carry out the roles of our job and I found great joy in all of it. I was happy to know them when I saw them; and not to be lost in my memory most of the time.

Headed back to the USA! We will fly out from Geneva, Switzerland where it is 38 degrees as I write this from inside!! I’m a Texan! Anything under the 50s is just too cold! LOL!

Two doctors visits as soon as I return; one with the neurologist and another with the neurosurgeon. The visits with The Lord have been impactful and truly health changing. I believe with no doubt at all that all is well … in fact, this Jan is even more amazing than that first one!

I started this particular surgical journey with a deep fear of the medicine that puts you to sleep for surgery … what do you call that? I just cannot remember it! I thought that I wouldn’t make it under just that medication. The Lord sent a woman, Etta, to walk and sing with me all the way into the surgery room and as we sang a song of praise I calmed myself. I woke up many hours later after a completed surgery in my right mind – may the Lord bless you Etta!! Etta found me when I went through the first surgery! As God works in our lives … it turns out that Etta and I are members of the same church family AND that Etta happens to know the surgeon AND that Etta is in management at the hospital where I’ve had to be. And neither of us knew one another until this journey started!

Another thing that happened as I was preparing me for this trip.  I mentioned to a friend, Wessilee, that I was concerned about taking this bald head to Europe because I was updated that it was so cold. Just a few days before I got on that airplane Wessilee crocheted for me that orange hat that is on my head! I was warm … and quite cute too! LOL!  Did I mention that I did not even know that she crocheted professionally until after I shared with her that I’d be cold! She asked me my favorite color and blessed me greatly!

My friends, this has happened quite a bit all the way through all of this. I pray that my words are so very clear … God has sent His love to me through every one of you!! You’re a gift from God to me … so, pour this love gift you have out everywhere you go! And for those of you who are having issues, share your hearts with others in the Body of Christ because Our Father will use them to bless you!

I have a wonderful husband, two loving (though bossy!) sons, a wise mom, a Godly sister, supporting cousins, etc. etc. and they have all just made their time available to care for me; they weren’t surprising, because I know they love me. But that wasn’t ALL!!! My church family blew my mind in their love and care – especially at moments that weren’t expected! My alto sisters from the worship ministry have been just wonderful! My friends that have known me a long time … they just left me speechless as they came to babysit me and did so much more! AND in amazing love The Lord sent me EVERY ONE OF YOU!! Each of you have sent me words of encouragement and responded to the blogs in a way that let me know I was not alone in the human life! Thank You!
Y’all we are children of God – those of us who are believers. We need to remember and accept that there will sometimes be difficulties for sure. But I’m telling you that even when trials that we face seem like they just might bring complete destruction, He promises that because we are His children – He will Be our covering! If you are His, He’s got you!! Y’all, he loves us and we are precious to Him. I’m believing Him, and claiming victory through Him in all of this.

Father, I have no doubt that these seizure issues never removed me from Your presence. In fact I have known at all times that I was with You! I knew that as I walked through all of the issues that followed the seizures they would not destroy my brain. The seizures would not remove my ability to do my job. The seizures would not remove my faith in You!  I’ve known from the beginning of all of this, that every time that I had sense enough to cry out to You – You would hear me and with Your Greatness, You would do things that this human mind of mine could just never imagine!! You, only You, are my God!  I love you, Lord! My love for You keeps me from ever doubting that You will protect me! I acknowledge You, Almighty God, at all times.  I will call upon You no matter what I am facing because there is no doubt all that you will answer me. I know you are with me in this and in all things and I know that you will deliver me and that You will ensure that I know how to share this testimony for the rest of my life.  Hallelujah!! I worship You and I love you beyond what I am able to express fully!! (Isaiah‬ ‭43:2; Psalm 86: 7-10, 91: 14-15

Carrying Out His Calling … No Matter What!

Howdy from France!

Our first work stop was in the town of Strausbourg. It’s was cold for a Texan girl (just about 50 degrees and under) but I’ve got a jacket. I also have an orange hat that was crocheted for me by an amazing friend of mine (thank you Wessilee!). It’s been a little rainy so we had to get an umbrella; and, of course, I’m wearing my hat and there’s a hood on my jacket – so no complaints.

A few difficulties:

  • I’ve had some headaches
  • I’ll need to have some things with my eyes/vision checked out. My two eyes are very different from one another
  • It seems that one of the medications make me very drowsy and dizzy.
  • The vertigo is not gone

OK, family/friends – the list below is my testimony for the first part of the trip:

  • God is good! God is faithful! God is powerful! God is merciful! God is gracious! God’s Healing Is REAL!
  • We had effective and encouraging times with the two missionary families that we were here to meet with
  • I am managing well and I’ve been able to live out my responsibilities in my role.
  • I have been able to remember most things that are said to me; including names (SMILE)
  • I have been able to communicate in ways that make sense (my funny vocabulary is just … funny)
  • Not ONE Seizure!!! Not one!!! Not One! NOT ONE!!!

Y’all – this seizure trial has come for sure! But, my Father has already overcome it, which means I cannot worry! This trip overseas will be alright and I’ll be able to step back into my role 100% very soon because I LOVE Him; and because I am answering a call from Him! It’s all about Him and it is not always easy.

Keep praying! We took about 4 hours in 2 flights from Strausbourg and then drove about two hours to reach the next city.

I’m looking forward to sending you a new testimony. In fact, I’m looking forward to being a Jesus testimony to my doctor’s office. Wouldn’t it be just incredible to see people on the neurologic team come to know Jesus!?!?

Father I want to honor You with my whole life, and at the end, when I stand before Your judgment seat – I want to hear You say well done. I refuse to live a life rejecting the great plans that You have for me! I am embracing Your best for me and, by faith, I am committed to complete the task that You have placed before me! I commit to finish well. Lord, You have done Your part by redeeming me through the blood of Christ; and equipping me with Your Holy Spirit. I will not neglect my part to submit to the difficulties, the setbacks, the disappointments and the pain, NO! I will look ahead to the day when I’ll meet You face to face. I am determined to allow You, my Lord, to develop within me a heart that can stand. I am committed to ask You to move in Your power and ignite Your passion in me to live for Your pleasure and for ultimate joy! I won’t give out – I won’t give in! (1 Corinthians 6:20; Deuteronomy 6:5; 2 Corinthians 5:10; 2 Timothy 4:7; Acts 20:24; Philippians 3: 12 – 16)

Walking in Faith NOT Fear!

Saturday, December 1st!! I know that is tomorrow, but I will have completed the 6 weeks that the hospital appoints me.  But today – November 30th, there’s been a blessing!!

Good news:

  • Last weekend I had a fellowship the Saturday after Thanksgiving that was very encouraging to me. It was a time with our Ghanaian friends/family from all over Houston; that just lifted me up!
  • I cooked gumbo.  Lloyd said it was great.
  • I tasted a Whataburger Jr. LOL! I liked it more than Sonic but do no understand why people would eat it regularly
  • And the best news is … The difficulties are not bothering me!!! Vertigo, tiredness, vocabulary, recognition of people … they are still there but I feel ABSOLUTELY blessed!

Lloyd has been pretty clear that we were going overseas in our job soon.  I didn’t really believe it, but the doctor’s office called me  to let me know it was necessary to ensure that I’m ready to return full time to my job.  The doctors office also let me know that they have been communicating this to Lloyd which means, I’m on a plane!! We are going to France (NO! not Paris) to visit three missionaries who are learning French in preparation for their work in Africa.

I was a little scared at first, but I was reminded by my Spiritual Director, Minister Denise Foxx, to remember that I have not had a seizure in six weeks AND I haven’t had even an airplane seizure since the Lord placed me under the care of this neurological team.  I believe in The Amazing Almighty God! I trust Him! Yes, I do! He has guided me and He will keep me.  Y’all … pray for me!

When I return from the trip, I will be meeting with the surgeon as soon as I get off the plane … literally! He wants me to land and drive straight to the Houston Medical Center.  I love the relationship I have with them, and God’s impact on them through lil’ old me! 5 days after meeting with the surgeon I have an appointment with the neurologist.    It is not over yet!

I know that The One who is healing me is worthy of all praise.  In fact, I know that The Almighty God has healed me of the seizures and sent me through surgery because I can let others understand the work of Our Father in medical care. I’ve had six weeks without ONE seizure! The Holy Comforter has kept me in my right mind. The Great I AM reminded me day by day that I am a child of the King who is!!

My Father, my Lord, the fullness of my joy is in Your presence! You receive my praise each and every single day!  You have loved me, My Father. You have called me to be a saint and have, through Jesus Christ, given me grace and peace. I’m rejoicing today because I know, with no doubt, that you will keep me firm until the end. I know that Your hand keeping me will help me to be blameless when Jesus Christ is looking at me! My Father, you are so faithful. I am grateful beyond my own understanding that You have called me into fellowship with Your Son, My Savior, Jesus Christ.  Traveling across the ocean is a place that You will keep me. Using me to serve people who have been called by you into missions, I know you will use me strongly for the sake of Your Kingdom.   (Proverbs 3: 23 – 24; Romans 1:7; 1 Corinthians 1: 8-9)
