Lloyd and Jan Chinn are native to Texas. Lloyd from Edna, TX, and Jan from Houston, TX.
When they married – Lloyd worked in land development for the state of Texas, and Jan was a Corporate Human Resources Manager. In 1998, Lloyd answered his call to ministry – and they moved to Dallas so that he could attend Dallas Theological Seminary. Lloyd was invited on his first short-term mission trip to Ghana during his first year, and on that trip, he knew he was called to global missions. The next year, he took the family and 22 other people to Ghana – and on that trip, Jan knew they were called to be there. Lloyd and Jan took short mission trips to Ghana annually.
In 2002, Lloyd received his ThM from Dallas Theological Seminary. In June 2023, they were appointed as long-term missionaries with WorldVenture. They arrived in Ghana to live there on January 1, 2005. The Chinns served in the town of Nkwanta in Ghana’s Oti Region and in Kumasi – Ashanti Region. Their ministry focus was Pastoral Leadership Development. They added Orphan Care, Educational Development, Women’s Empowerment, and Community Economic Development as they became familiar with the community. They were blessed by The Lord to design and build a Short Term Missions home, and a Poultry Farm; and they are now completing construction of a Leadership Development Center,
In 2013, they returned to the USA on furlough and were appointed as the Global Initiatives Director for Africa beginning in March 2014.
Lloyd and Jan are the first African Americans to serve as Global Directors for WorldVenture. The new role has added 14 additional countries to their Africa ministry life.
Lloyd and Jan are also serving MANI (the Movement for African National Initiatives) as the North America Diaspora Coordinator; and at Crossover Bible Fellowship as leads of the Missions Ministry (Front Door to Frontier).
Lloyd’s firm message to the African American church has been the same from the beginning of their journey: “Pray! Pay! and/or Pack!”
