New Years Resolutions – we all make them. Some of us do it with the accountability of friends; some of us do it privately telling no one; some of us do it with every intention of keeping the resolutions; some of us do it because it is tradition, and we have no plans whatsover to keep the resolution. We resolve to do something different in the New Year because we want something different in the New Year. We want to be thinner; more educated; more fit; more accomplished; less arrogant; less judgmental; more loving; the list goes on and on. As for me, I want to live fully and I want to be blessed by God – and wouldn’t you know He has already made that provision for me and for you! The only requirement is that we choose what He offers. No matter what you are resolving to do – resolve to set yourself up to experience abundant life. How? It’s simple really. Just ask yourself if your resolution(s) help you to accomplish these three BIG basics —
- Love God with everthing within you — heart, soul and mind. Put Him first, acknowledge Him before every decision you make and I guarantee that you will see a change in your life. Revere God. Live in surrender – complete surrender every day. Give up your perceived rights – submitting your desires to Him. Matthew 22:37
- Love the people around you with no self interest – love them like you love you! Loving others can be difficult, because sometimes people are not so lovely! Prefer others over yourself. Make the choice to love others and treat them the way you would treat yourself. Matthew 22:39
- Disciple others, teaching them the way of the cross. You don’t have to teach a Bible study – you can teach people the ways of the Cross as you walk with them; talk with them; etc. And guess what – you can teach them the way of the cross even if they are not believers. Life on life – live so that people will see the beauty of living Christ’s way and want to know Him as Savior. Matthew 28:19, 20
He came that we might have life – abundant life! If your resolutions help you to accomplish even one of these things in 2016 – I know that the joy of the Lord will be your portion and that you will find God’s pleasure in your life. Your life will be abundantly blessed. It is my prayer that your life be blessed and that you live fully in the way that God intended. It is my hope that in 2016 you will experience both abundant life and abundant blessing – blessings that only He can give and no man can take away. Resolve to choose life and blessing! And let me know throughout the year how you see your life has been transformed.
I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants, (Deuteronomy 30:19)
